Pick the One That Matches Your Setup

Most clinics use one. Some use both — direct ingestion from a scanner they own plus DexaPlus for remote or overflow patients.

Path 1 · For clinics with their own scanner

Direct from the DEXA machine

A lightweight Moonshot bridge runs alongside the scanner's native software. When a scan completes, the report payload is captured and pushed into the patient's Moonshot Clinic chart in seconds. Hologic Horizon supported today; additional scanner stacks on the roadmap.

  • Tech keeps using their existing scanner workflow
  • Scan attaches to the chart before the patient is dressed
  • AI-drafted body-comp summary in the clinician review queue immediately
  • Per-machine routing for multi-scanner clinics
Path 2 · For clinics using the DexaPlus network

Via the DexaPlus network

DexaPlus is a network and marketplace connecting clinics to DEXA providers. If you source scans through DexaPlus, Moonshot Clinic pulls the resulting scan data into the patient's chart via the DexaPlus API — same downstream pipeline as direct-from-scanner.

  • Real-time ingestion when a scan posts to DexaPlus
  • Auto-match to the patient record (DOB + name or MRN)
  • Branded PDF + portal delivery + follow-up scheduling
  • Run alongside direct ingestion if you have both

DEXA Belongs Inside the EHR

DEXA is the cleanest objective measurement a cash-pay specialty clinic has. Lean mass, fat mass, visceral fat, regional asymmetry — all numbers patients understand and progress against. The problem isn't the scan. The problem is the manual choreography between the scanner, the report, the chart, the portal, and the follow-up calendar.

The integration turns that into one workflow. A scan completes — on your machine or on a DexaPlus provider's machine. Within seconds it lands in the patient's Moonshot Clinic chart, generates a branded PDF, posts to the patient portal, emails the patient, and queues the follow-up appointment. Your tech does not export. Your clinician does not copy-paste. Your front desk does not call to schedule the recheck.

The before-and-after is the whole pitch. Before: scan completes → tech writes down patient name → manual chart entry in the EHR → manual PDF generation → manual upload to the portal → manual phone call to book follow-up. Four staff touches per scan, multiple failure points, and patients waiting days for results. After: the scan completes. Everything downstream is automatic.

What the Integration Does

Seven specific pieces of plumbing. Each one removes a manual step that DEXA clinics do every day.

Real-time scan ingestion

Direct push from the scanner or from the DexaPlus network the moment a scan completes. No batch jobs, no nightly syncs — the chart updates while the patient is still on the table.

Automatic patient matching

Match on date of birth plus name, or MRN. Exact-match only — no fuzzy guessing on shared identifiers. Anything ambiguous routes to a manual-match queue.

Branded PDF reports

Moonshot's report engine renders body-comp PDFs with your clinic logo, your colors, and the layout template you choose. Preview before patients see anything.

Patient portal delivery

PDF plus an interactive dashboard view appears in the patient's portal within minutes. Optional email push with a one-click portal login.

Trending dashboards

Lean mass, fat mass, visceral fat, regional asymmetry — trended across every visit a patient has ever had. Patients see the curve, not a single number.

Follow-up scheduling

Auto-prompt the patient at 3, 6, or 12 month rescan windows based on your protocol. Booking links land in their inbox the day they hit the window.

AI scan-comparison insights

The AI flags clinically meaningful changes between scans — significant lean mass loss, fat mass shifts, regional asymmetry — so clinicians review what matters and skip what's noise.

From Scan Table to Patient Inbox

What the integration looks like in production — same downstream flow regardless of which path the scan comes from.

1
Patient arrives
Front desk pulls up the patient record in Moonshot Clinic. If new, intake takes ~2 minutes through the standard intake form.
2
Scan completes (60–90 seconds)
Tech operates the scanner the way they do today — on your in-clinic Hologic or at a DexaPlus provider. Nothing changes in their workflow.
3
Auto-matched to the patient record
Scan payload arrives via the Moonshot scanner bridge (Path 1) or the DexaPlus API (Path 2), matches on DOB + name (or MRN), and attaches to the correct chart. Failures route to manual-match.
4
AI-generated report draft enters the clinician review queue
Body-comp template populated with this scan's data, prior-scan deltas, and AI-flagged changes the clinician should look at first.
5
Clinician reviews and signs
Sign with one click, or configure auto-publish rules per scan type if your protocol allows it (standard rescans, for example).
6
Branded PDF pushed to patient portal + emailed to patient
Patient gets an email with a one-click portal login. PDF download and interactive dashboard are both visible.
7
Follow-up appointment auto-scheduled
Based on your rescan protocol (3, 6, or 12 months), a booking prompt lands in the patient's inbox at the right window.

About DexaPlus

DexaPlus is a network and marketplace connecting clinics to DEXA imaging providers — useful for clinics without their own scanner, for remote or traveling patients, or for capacity overflow. Moonshot Clinic integrates with DexaPlus directly so scans sourced through the network land in the patient's chart the same way an in-house scan does. This integration is independently developed by Moonshot Clinic LLC; nothing on this page constitutes an endorsement by DexaPlus or any other third party. Learn more at dexaplus.com.

"We built the DEXA integration because we run a DEXA imaging arm ourselves — a Hologic scanner in our own clinic. The combination is what every DEXA clinic wants: scan in their machine of choice, report and trends in their EHR, patient sees results in their portal within minutes. The DexaPlus path is there for everyone else, because not every clinic owns a machine."

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Moonshot Clinic get scans off our DEXA machine?
A lightweight bridge runs alongside the scanner's native software (Hologic Horizon supported today). When a scan completes, the bridge captures the report payload and pushes it into Moonshot Clinic. No additional clicks, no manual exports, no copy-paste. Your tech operates the scanner exactly the way they do today.
What if we source scans through DexaPlus instead?
Moonshot Clinic also integrates with the DexaPlus network. If your clinic uses DexaPlus to source DEXA scans through their provider network, those scans flow into Moonshot Clinic via the DexaPlus API the same way direct-from-scanner data does — auto-matched to the patient record and dropped into the clinician review queue.
Can we run both paths at the same time?
Yes. Clinics that own a scanner and also use DexaPlus for overflow or remote patients can have both feeds active. Every scan lands in the same chart-attached pipeline regardless of source.
What if a scan doesn't auto-match to a patient?
A manual-match queue lets staff resolve the patient identity in seconds. Failed matches are logged for audit. Nothing is dropped, deleted, or silently merged. Auto-match is exact-match only — we don't fuzzy-guess on shared identifiers like phone numbers.
Can we customize the report?
Yes. Upload your clinic logo and brand colors, choose a layout template, and preview the rendered PDF before any patient sees it. Reports are generated by Moonshot Clinic's report engine the same way they would be for any other modality.
What about HIPAA?
Moonshot Clinic operates under Business Associate Agreements with its subprocessors. Integration data flows encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+) and is tenant-isolated at rest. Audit logs capture every scan-receipt event and every manual-match resolution.
Can patients see scan history themselves?
Yes. The patient portal shows trend charts across all of a patient's scans — lean mass, fat mass, regional composition — alongside the most-recent branded PDF report. Patients can download any prior report directly from the portal.
What if we have multiple DEXA machines?
Per-machine throughput dashboards and per-machine routing rules are supported. Each scanner can map to its own Moonshot Clinic location, with separate routing rules and review queues.
